Diagnostic Assessment: DSM-5-TR, ICD-11, ICF and Autism-Specific Tools

Explain clinical criteria used in ASD assessment

Question (10 marks): Explain the main role of DSM-5-TR, ICD-11 and ICF in understanding autism.

DSM-5-TR criteria

Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fifth Edition, Text Revision है।

DSM-5-TR

  • Domain A — Social communication/interaction:

ICD-11

ICD-11 का पूरा नाम International Classification of Diseases, Eleventh Revision है; इसे World Health Organization जारी करता है।

  • Purpose: World Health Organization का International Classification of Diseases, Eleventh Revision (ICD-11) clinical conditions के classification का framework है।

ICF

International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health है।

  • Purpose: International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF) diagnosis

Compare autism-specific assessment tools

Question (10 marks): Compare the main autism-related diagnostic and assessment tools listed in the syllabus.

Indian tools

  • ISAA — Indian Scale for Assessment of Autism:
  • AIIMS Modified INDT-ASD: AIIMS Modified INCLEN Diagnostic Tool for Autism Spectrum Disorder

International observation and interview tools

  • ADOS-2 — Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule, Second Edition: Semi-structured, standardized observation-based assessment,

Self-report and rating scales

ICF checklist

Explain cultural adaptation and tool selection

Question (6–8 marks): Explain how cultural adaptation and appropriate tool selection affect autism assessment.

Selection steps

  1. Clarify the question: क्या उद्देश्य diagnostic decision, developmental history, social-responsiveness rating या functional support needs को समझना है?
  2. Check age and communication: Tool
  3. Use authorised translations: केवल शब्द बदलना पर्याप्त नहीं; conceptual equivalence, forward/back translation, expert review और appropriate validation महत्वपूर्ण हो सकते हैं।

Explain why multiple sources are needed

Question (6–8 marks): Explain why diagnostic assessment should use multiple sources of information.
