Physical Health: Autoimmune and Gastrointestinal Conditions

Discuss gastrointestinal and autoimmune health

Question (10 marks): Discuss gastrointestinal and autoimmune health concerns in autistic learners and explain the educator’s role.

Gastrointestinal (GI) symptoms

Gastrointestinal symptoms

Feeding differences and nutrition

Autoimmune conditions

Pain and behaviour changes

Red flags and referral

  • Urgent concern: Severe or worsening abdominal pain, repeated vomiting, blood in stool, collapse, breathing difficulty

Factual observation, respectful communication, appropriate accommodations और timely healthcare referral learner की well-being तथा education access के लिए आवश्यक हैं।

Apply functional health observation in school

Question (4–5 marks): Explain how an educator should document a possible physical-health concern.

  1. Observed change:

Worked Example

Apply the health observation at school

Question (6–8 marks): Explain practical steps an educator can take when a learner shows possible physical-health symptoms.

  1. Record the change:
  3. Hear the learner: speech, gesture, writing, pictures
  4. Provide safe access: toilet, break, privacy या existing health plan के अनुसार support दें।
  5. Contact and refer: school protocol

Quick Revision

  • Educator’s role: Observe, support, document and refer; diagnosis या diet/medication prescribe न करें।
