Neurological Conditions: Seizures, ADHD and Tourette’s Syndrome
Explain neurological conditions relevant to autism
Question (10 marks): Differentiate seizures, ADHD and Tourette’s syndrome, and explain their educational implications.
Seizures and epilepsy
Seizures and epilepsy
Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)
Tourette’s syndrome and tic disorders
| Condition | Main distinction | School response |
|---|---|---|
| Tics/Tourette’s | अनैच्छिक motor movements और/or vocal tics | Respectful response, privacy, anti-bullying और task accommodations |
Worked Example
Explain seizure first aid and school safety
Question (4–5 marks): State the first-aid steps a school staff member should follow during a seizure.
- Protect from injury:
- Nothing in the mouth:
- Time the event: Seizure
Conclusion: Seizure first aid
Apply classroom supports and referral
Question (6–8 marks): Explain how an educator can support a learner with a neurological condition while maintaining appropriate role boundaries.
Practical steps
- Use the action plan: Known medical condition
- Adjust learning access: ADHD में written steps/reminders और tics से handwriting प्रभावित होने पर alternative response format या extra time पर विचार करें।
- Refer when needed: नया episode, unusual movement या persistent functional difficulty हो तो institution protocol के अनुसार family और qualified professional से संपर्क करें।
Quick Revision
- First aid: Injury से बचाएँ, restrain न करें, मुँह में कुछ न डालें, event time करें और जरूरत पर emergency help लें।
- Educator’s role: Observe, document, accommodate and refer; diagnosis या medication management न करें।
